Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on January 27, 1955.

The tower represents a Roman fortress, as the Roman frontier passed through the area alongside the river Main. The two shields show the arms of the Vocken von Wallstadt family on the right, who were the local vassals of the prince-bishops of Mainz, who owned the area. The wheel of Mainz can be seen in the left shield. The Vocken von Wallstadt family built a castle in the town, but became extinct in 1624.
