Origin/meaning
Hartenfels received city rights between 1332 and 1346 from the Archbishops of Trier. The oldest seals of the town, however, date from the 17th and 18th century. The oldest seals show the St. Mary with child, the later seals show St. Anthony, the new patron saint of the local church.
The present arms were designed in 1956 and show a T-cross with bells, the symbols of St. Anthony. The main colours red and silver are the colours of the State of Trier.
Literature: Stadler, 1964-1971, 8 volumes.
