Origin/meaning
The arms are a combination of the arms of the two former municipalities.
The previous arms were adopted on August 12, 1946.
The arms are known from seals and banners since 1425. The bear is the symbol of St. Gallus and taken from the arms of the powerful St. Gallen Abbey. The W is the initial for Wil.
