Origin/meaning

The arms show a grill, the symbol of St. Lawrence, the patron saint of the town. The grill already appears on the oldest known seal of the town, dating from the late 16th century. All later seals showed the grill as the main figure, and thus was the grill placed in a shield and granted as arms in 1926. The colours are derived from the arms of the Pfalz, to which the town historically belonged (in black a golden lion).
