Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on October 23, 1965.

The Y symbolises the railway lines and junction in the town. The black colour symbolises the importance of coal mining in the municipality. The gold the richness obtained from mining. The flaming sword is the symbol of the local patron saint, St. Michael. The axe is a symbol of the clearing of the forest for the settlements of Zeisweiler and Wemmetsweiler.
