Kohlberg.jpg

Official blazon

Unter Schildhaupt mit den bayerischen Rauten in Silber ein grüner Dreiberg, über dem ein waagrechter, gestümmelter schwarzer Baumast schwebt.

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted in 1442 by Duke Johann of Bayern, at the same time as the town rights. The chief shows the diamonds of the Wittelsbach family, Dukes of Bayern, and Lords of Kohlberg since 1268. The base of the shield is canting, a burned branch (Kohl=coal) and a mountain (Berg). All later seals and images show the same composition and colours, although some different colours were used in the 19th century.
