German In silbernem Schilde ein durchgehendes schwarzes Kreuz, belegt mit einem von silber und schwarz schräglinks geteilten Herzschild, in dessen oberes Feld ein schwarzes Faßeisen, im unteren silberne Bergmannshammer stehen.

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on April 24, 1937.

The arms are largely based on the arms of Marl, granted one year earlier, and shows the same symbolism. The cross and the colours are those of the State of Köln, the miner's tools refer to mining and the barrel-iron is taken from the arms of the Von Loe family.
