Origin/meaning

The red chief on a golden shield is the arms of the city and former counts of Megen and is used here to symbolise the family name. The star is a combination of the star of David and a star for Mary.

The black point is loosely based on the arms of Eygelshoven, where the bishop was born. The village was a coal mining area, the point is taken from the arms, but instead of the mining tools, the colour black was chosen to symbolise coal. Coal hills were also common in the area.

The deer head with the cross is the symbol for Saint Hubertus, the patron of the bishop.

The motto means In your light.
