County (Län): Örebro län
Additions: 1971 Hammar, Lerbäck (1952 Snavlunda)

Arms (crest) of Askersund
Official blazon
Swedish

I fält av silver en naturfärgad smed, hållande med båda händerna en svart slägga, och klädd i vit skjorta, blå byxor, gula strumpor, svarta skor och blå luva.

English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms are based on the description of the town seal in the royal letter of 1643, when Askersund was made a town.

Strangely enough, in 1948 a blazon was granted which really was unheraldic, as white and yellow is present in the arms - and the white is also bordering to silver, which actually should be unthinkable. The smith's skin has got the tincture "proper", which usually is avoided in more modern arms. In older renditions, the smith has sometimes got other tinctures.
