Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted in 1818 confirmed on February 16, 1847 and in a new design granted on November 17, 1987.

The meaning and origin of the unicorn is not known. After the mergers in 1977 the municipality initially continued the arms with the unicorn. In 1987 the new arms were grnated, showing the arms of the de lanfranchi family. Jacob de Lanfranchi bought the Kruibeke estate in 1594 and the family ruled the village until 1799. As a crest the family used a unicorn, which may be the origin of the unicorn in the 1819 arms. In any case, the unicorn was placed as a crest on the shield.
