REMICH
Origin/meaning :
The arms were granted on November 16, 1816 and are thus one of the oldest arms in Luxembourg. As Luxembourg was at the time part of the Netherlands, the arms were granted in The Hague.
The arms are identical to the arms of the city of Luxembourg and nearly identical to the National arms. The arms differ in the number of bars only. It has been stated that the city should change its (historical) arms to avoid confusion with the arms of the capital. But as yet no changes have been made.
The arms are obviously based on the arms of the oldest Grand Dukes of Luxembourg. The old seals of the city also show the same arms, but the number of bars differs.
