Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on October 20, 1819 and again on June 30, 1839 and October 13, 1993.
The arms are based on the local seals used from the 14th until the 17th century. The meaning thereof is not known, neither are coloured images of the arms known.
The colours thus are the Dutch national colours, as in 1813 the mayor applied without indicating the colours. The arms were thus granted in the national colours. When the arms were confirmed after the Belgian independence, the colours were not changed.
