Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on December 28, 2012.

The arms combine elements for the different historical parts that now form the current province. The cross in the first quarter is a canting symbol (the name means Holy Cross Province).
The second quarter shows the silver eagle for both the historical Kraków region, as well as Poland today.
The third quarter shows the bars of Sandomierz Province, probably dating from the 14th century.
Th fourth quarter refers to the number of former districts in th eprovince, which were nine. Why in 2012 the number of stars is reduced, I don't know.

The previous arms were granted on October 11, 1999 and showed one star more:
