18TH ARMOURED REGIMENT GOTLAND REGIMENT, SWEDISH ARMY
Raised : 1811 as Nationalbeväringen å Gotland, later renamed Gotlands nationalbeväring
1887 reorganised as Gotlands infanteriregemente and Gotlands artillerikår. In 1963 transferred to the Armoured Troops
While Infantry the Regiment first carried the number 27, but in 1928 renumbered 18, when the Västmanlands regemente that had been number 18 was disbanded.
Disbanded : 2004
Reformed : 1 January 2018

Origin/meaning
The Provincial Arms of Gotland with Armoured insignia. The Regiment was originaly Infantry converted to Armour in 1963, but kept the number 18 from the Infantry sequence. Disbanded in 2004.
