Official blazon

Shield: Sanguine, a bear passant Proper; on a chief Argent a cross of Malta of the field.
Crest: On a wreath of the colors (Argent and Sanguine) an arm in armour embowed Proper.
Motto: In omnia promptus.

Distinctive Unit Insingia, Description: A Silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned: Sanguine, a bear passant Proper; on a chief Argent a cross of Malta of the field. Attached below the shield is a Silver scroll inscribed "IN OMNIA PROMPTUS" in Maroon letters.

Origin/meaning

The Colours is indicative of the origin asa Medical Unit. The Bear from the Flag of California, symbolises the raising at Camp Freemont, California. The Cross of Malta alludes to the Knights Hospitallers of St John of Jersualem, the first exclusively military medical organisation. The Crest signifies power.

The arms were originally approved for the 8th Medical Regiment on 28 February 1934. It was redesignated for the 8th Medical Battalion on 27 November 1939. The insignia was redesignated for the 1st Medical Battalion on 6 August 1940. The Coat of Arms was redesignated for the 201st Support Battalion on 5 June 1987. The Distinctive Unit insignia was originally approved for the 8th Medical Regiment on 2 March 1934. It was redesignated for the 8th Medical Battalion on 28 November 1939. The Insignia was redesignated for the 1st Medical Battalion on 6 August 1940. The Insignia was redesignated for the 201st Support Battalion on 5 June 1987.
