Official blazon

Arms : Argent, a mullet (or spur-rowel) sable, and in the dexter chief a crescent gules.
Crest : On a wreath atgent and sable, the battlements of a tower proper and thereon a griffin's head erased, gules, charged on the neck with a crescent Or.
Motto : Labor omnia vincit - Labour overcomes all

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on July 7, 1926.

The arms are based on the arms of the old local family of Assheton, which town already used previously. The Assheton spur-rowel also appears in the arms of Clitheroe, Stalybridge, and Middleton.
