BRAKEL
Province : Oost-Vlaanderen
Additions : 1970 Elst, Michelbeke, Nederbrakel, Opbrakel, Zegelsem; 1976 Everbeek, Parike
Official blazon
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on April 1, 1985.
The arms are identical to the old arms of Opbrakel. The arms are based on the oldest known seal of that village, dating from 1769, which shows the shield with a child or angel as supporter. The shield itself is derived from the arms of the Lords van Brakel, known since the 15th century.
