BREISGAU-HOCHSCHWARZWALD (FR)

State : Baden-Württemberg
Additions 1973 Freiburg, Müllheim, Hochschwarzwald

Breisgau.kreis.jpg

Origin/meaning :
The arms were granted on Augustus 2, 1974.

The arms are a combination of the arms of Austria (bar) and Baden (bend), as the largest part of the district was historically either part of Austria or Baden. The eagle is taken from the arms of the Princes of Fürstenberg, who also had several estates in the district, and is also part of the arms of the city of Breisach.

Literature : John and Heine, 1989
