Origin/meaning

The hand has been the symbol and the arms of the town as long as known. All seals of the city show the hand, either alone or in a shield. The oldest seal dates from the end of the 14^th century, and the arms thus haven't changed since.

Only in the late the 20th century the old colours were changed into the Polish colours silver and red.
