Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on June 15, 2007.

The arms are based on the emblem and school colours of blue and silver initiated by the founders of the school in 1981. The open book represents the Calgary Academy’s goal for excellence in learning. The jagged line represents the location of the school, in the foothills of the Rockies. The laurel wreaths are symbols to represent the desire for excellence.

The yellow coronet is composed of wild roses, Alberta’s provincial flower, and hazelnuts, a floral symbol of wisdom resulting from education. The knight alludes to the student athletic teams and signifies a person ready for action in life. The shield of arms held by the knight emphasizes the school’s identity, and the yellow plume represents the dedicated staff as an integral part of learning.

The dragons allude to the school mascot, a source of spirit and enthusiasm. The yellow compartment represents the arena of engagement for knights in action. For students, the arena is the campus, representing the golden opportunity of education.

REACH is an acronym, which stands for “Respect • Enthusiasm • Altruism • Commitment • Honesty.” REACH represents the code of conduct that is held by all students at The Calgary Academy. It is an integral part of the students’ day, both in their academics and their extra-curricular activities.
