CAMUY

Camuy.jpg

Origin/meaning

The green of the background means the green of the pastures and vegetation in the municipality. The centre symbol is designed in the art manner of the original inhabitants, the Taino. The symbol representing the god of the sun, was called "Camuy" in the native tongue. The interrupted wavy white band represents the local river Rio Camuy, which goes subterranean during part of its trajectory, creating one of the most spectacular underground river cave systems in the world, the Rio Camuy Cave System.
