Origin/meaning
The arms symbolises the 1818 founded Horten Naval Base to which in 1820 a Naval Shipyard was added. King Oscar gave 1854 the Base the Name Carljohansvern Shipyard. From 1850 to 1968 the Main Norwegian Naval Base was situated here.
