Established : 1874 as the Missionary District of New Mexico and Arizona. Becoming in 1952 the Episcopal Diocese of New Mexico and Southwest Texas
Renamed as the Diocese of Rio Grande in 1973.

Origin/meaning

The Sun and Star symbolizes the Two States which the Diocese is located in, New Mexico and Texas. Which is gathered about their Lord symbolized by the Cross.
