Origin/meaning

The Pelican alludes to Louisiana and the Diocese of Louisiana, from which the Diocese of Western Louisiana was formed in 1979. the Felur-de-lis symbolises the French influence on the hirtory of the area. The escallop symbolizes the Gulf of Mexico which forms the Southern Boundary of the Diocese.
