Origin/meaning

The bull's head and mullet together represent never giving up on the pursuit of personal improvement, authenticity, and the honing of skills. The tinctures represent the night sky when Truls was born, as well as sincerity (argent) and serenity (azure). On its own, the mullet represents the North Star, a symbol of his Norwegian-Minnesotan heritage. It also represents hope and guidance. The bull’s head represents a fighting spirit, as well as the "Inka creed" from his childhood: "Never give up, even when the odds are stacked against you."

The crest cants "Rypern", since "ryper" is the Norwegian word for "ptarmigans". The motto is a reference to these lyrics from Ode to Joy: "We enter, drunk with fire, Heavenly One, thy sanctuary". The motto, among other things, expresses joie de vivre, which he believe is an attitude he holds. If it ever isn't, it's one he strives for.
