Origin/meaning
The upper half shows the arms of the Diocese of Osnabrück (wheel) and Archdiocese of Paderborn (cross). The tree is taken from the Bible; Jer 17, 7-8 (But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream), an important verse for the bishop.
The fourth quarter shows the arms of Niels Stensen, Auxiliary Bishop of Münster and missionary in the area.
