Origin/meaning

The arms were officially adopted on October 28, 2015.

The arms are based on a local event on December 26, 1668. On this day in the sky above the village an extraordinary event was observed: the sun shone at the foot of a cross standing on the local hill, the moon first was seen at the intersection of the arms of the cross and took the form of heart there, and then moved above the cross.
Although the incident took place in the morning, the sun and moon were on the western side of the sky. On the basis of Revelation of John the Evangelist it was seen as a sign that this place was chosen by the God and the village came to be called the New Jerusalem.

The arms were designed in 1670 by Bishop Stefan Wierzbowski, to whom the village belonged at the time, and were granted in the same year by King Michael Korybut Wiśniowiecki.

Although the symbolism has not changed, the shape and colours of the arms differed widely during the years.
