English Per fess embattled red and black; a leopard's face ducally crowned all gold.

Origin/meaning

The Castle was founded by King Edward I of England in 1277. He lost Crown and Head when surrendering to the Duke of Northumberland at the Castle in 1399. This is indicated by the badge, which was approved in 1949.
