Origin/meaning

As auxiliary bishop he used a natural landscape, which later became the inescutcheon of the arms in Eichstätt. It is speculated that this landscape resembled Austria and thus was a canting image (Oesterreiceher means someone from Austria). The composition also has been explained as Biblical references.

The cross is the cross of the Bavarian Order of Saint Michael, to which he was included by the Bavarian King. The letters mean P (Principi) F (Fidelis) F (Favere) P (Patriae).
