Official blazon

  • (personal half) Gules, five annulets in cross or and a canton ermine

Origin/meaning

As common in US episcopal heraldry, the arms show the arms of the diocese impaled with the personal arms of the bishop.

The personal arms are those obtained by his father by the Ulster King of Arms. The five annulets are canting 'wells'. In the arms of the bishop they also symbolise the five sacred wounds of Christ.

The achievement is completed with the heraldic insignia of a prelate of the rank of (arch)bishop.
