Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on February 8, 1991.

This local authority is situated on the Cape Flats near Cape Town. This is a sandy area once covered by the sea, but now quite heavily vegetated, hence the fir-tree topped partition. The chief nowy of a karoo gable alludes to a form of architecture now increasingly prevalent on the Cape Flats as well as the area where it originally evolved. The fact that Khayalethu South is largely populated by Xhosas, who as a tribe are in the forefront of the "liberation struggle", is reflected in the motto.
