Region : Catalonia
Province : Lleida

Escudo de La Granja d'Escarp

Official blazon

Escut caironat: de gules, una granja d'or oberta sobremuntada d'una petxina d'argent i acostada de 4 besants d'or en pal a cada costat. Per timbre una corona mural de poble.

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on August 9, 2001.

Canting arms: they show a "granja" (Catalan for "farm"). La Granja d'Escarp was born as a farm of the monks of the monastery of Escarp (founded in 1213), that in the 14th century passed to the Montcada family, the marquises of Aitona. The arms of the Montcadas are the eight golden bezants on Gules, placed as two pales at each side. The shell above is the attribute of St. James, the local patron saint.
