Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on February 15, 1868 and again on July 1, 1985.

The arms are based on a seal from 1776 of the Barony of Laarne. The colours of the arms on the seal were not known, and were taken from the arms of the Van Laarne family, even though the family may never have been in possession of the village. Their arms are known from the 14th century and are identical to the arms of the seal, a lion in a bordure. The crown and the supporters are those of Gerard van Vilsteren, who became the first Baron of Laarne in 1673.
