Auxiliary Bishop of Philadelphia, 1981-1997; Titular Bishop of Cillium

Arms (crest) of Louis Anthony DeSimone
Official blazon
English blazon wanted

Azure: a circle of 12 estoiles or enclosing the lower case gothic letter M or. Motto: "Servus Tuus" .

Origin/meaning

The letter M (Mary) is taken from the Coat-of-Arms of Pope John Paul II. The crown of twelve estoiles (stars) is derived from the Bible Book of Revelation: "A great sign appeared in the sky, a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and on her head a crown of twelve stars" (12:1). The crown appears on the portrait of Our Lady of the Rosary before which the Desimone Family recited the daily Rosary.

The Motto: " Your Servant" refers to the Bishop's role of servant in imitation of Christ.

There is a secondary significance of the Coat-of-Arms: The letter M is the symbol of St. Monica Parish where Bishop DeSimone is Pastor. The Motto: " Your Servant" would then refer to the Pastor's care of each member of his parish.

Literature: Information from the archdiocese
