As common in US episcopal heraldry, the arms show the arms of the diocese impaled with the personal arms of the bishop.

Above the chevron are а gold rose Saint Theresa of the Child Jesus, also known as Тhе Little Flower," and а silver lilу for Saint Joseph, who have served as Bishop Zarama's particular patron throughout his life as а priest and as а bishop.

He selected for his motto the Latin phrase "DEUS CARIТAS EST." This phrase "GOD IS LOVE" is the title of an encyclical Ьу His Holiness, Роре Benedict XVI.

The achievement is completed with the heraldic insignia of a prelate of the rank of bishop.
