The arms were officially granted on August 14, 2007.

The triple hill refers to the legendary Satrija hill (also known as Pasatrija castle-mound), and the flames refer to first of all the signal flames of Samogitian castles, used for warning each other and the area for attacks of the Teutonic Order.
