Origin/meaning

The arms were adopted in 1929 and show the two letters as a symbol for the name of the town. The two letters first appear in a seal dating from 1617 below a star. The original seal, and other 17th century images, show a normal letter S. The S shown in the arms was used as a village sign in the 18th century. The arms thus combine the two versions. The small mountain in the base is the Ratberg mountain in the municipality.
