MARGONIN

Province: Wielkopolska
County: Chodzież

Arms of Margonin

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms show a crowned woman on a bear. This is part of the coat of arms of the Rawicz family (or clan), and already appeared on the local seal from 1787, when the town was ruled by a branch of the family. Similar seals were used until the early 20th century.

In 1994 Plewako and Wanag showed quite different arms with a city wall with gate and three towers, based on the oldest 16th century seal. Presently the city uses again the historical arm, although in different colours as in the early 20th century.
