State : Mecklenburg-Vorpommern
District (Kreis) : Vorpommern-Greifswald (until 2010 Ostvorpommern)
Additions : 2005 Dewichow. Morgenitz

Wappen von Mellenthin/Arms (crest) of Mellenthin
Official blazon
German blazon wanted
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on March 1, 2001.

The arms show the local castle, which was initially built between 1575-1580 by Lord Rüdiger von Neuenkirchen. Later other families inhabited and changed the castle. Nowadays it is used as a regional cultural centre. The wavy base symbolises the fact that the castle is situated on a small island. The oak leaves symbolise the forests in the region.
