Origin/meaning

The sunburst symbolises the Reconquista Movment which had its base in Coimbra, where the HQ of the Region is located. The Enscuteon with the Cross symbolises the Crusade against the Moors. The bordure is indicative of a Military Region.

The Motto was later changed to "Primus inter pares" = "First Among equals".

Military Region Center was deactivated in 1993. in the Period 1970-1975 it was known as Military Region Coimbra.
