Origin/meaning

The Red Heart with Cross is the emblem of the Sacred Heart and of the Jesus Caritas movement. The color blue represents the many lakes and rivers which make up the life blood of the land. The Gold Cross also indicates that Bishop Murray Chatlain was ordained on the Feast of the Triumph of the Cross.

The wavy bend in the first and fourth quarter represents the mighty Mackenzie River, the ancient highway of the Diocese.

The sacred drum in the second quarter represents the strength of the spirituality and culture of the Aboriginal people. The Stole in the Shape of the Letter 'M' represents the gift of the priesthood in Bishop Murray's own life and for the people. The 'M' represents Mother Mary's presence and help.

The Motto "The Almighty has done great things for us." is taken from Psalm 126. The motto was translated into Latin as Archbishop.
