NAUJAMIESTIS
County : Panevėžys
Municipality : Panevėžys
Lithuanian | blazon wanted |
English | blazon wanted |
Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on August 25, 2008.
The angel reflects the local monument for victims of the 1905-1907 revolution; also it symbolizes the connection between heaven and earth. The forked spearhead (“senek” in Karaim language) is the national badge (“tamga” in Karaim language) of Karaim people: the Karaim were settled there in early 15th century by Grand Duke Vytautas for serving as guards of Upytė castle (their descendants now live in Panevėžys). Blue symbolizes loyalty, wisdom, constancy and honesty.
