History: First formed in 1942 at Royal Naval Air Station Hatston (HMS Sparrowhawk), Orkney Islands.
English | Blue; a base barry wavy of eight white and blue chief five clouds white overall a gauntlet proper winged gold. Motto: Strike and defend. |
Origin/meaning
The five clouds alludes to the five Pilots from No 880 Squadron that come over when No 899 Squadron was formed. The Winged Gauntlet symbolises seving in HMS Indomitable, Royal Navy whose Badge includes a gauntlet. The Badge was approved on 1 September 1943.
