Coat of arms (crest) of Oberstinkenbrunn
Official blazon

English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on August 24, 1967.

Oberstinkenbrunn already had town rights in the 15th century, but never was granted arms. In 1964 the town council applied to the State government for a grant of arms and search for historical arms or seals. As the latter was negative, new arms were designed.

The State Archives proposed for the new arms elements from the history of the town, such as the patron saint (St. Lawrence), a reference to the Gaming Abbey (to whom the church belonged) as well as symbols for agriculture. It took nearly 3 years before the council and the archive agreed on the above arms.

The tower in the arms refers to the so-called Galgensäule on the Galgenberg and refers to the fact that the Abbey received the higher justice in 1564 over the town. The grapes refer to the importance of viticulture. The colours are those of Nierderösterreich.
