Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on May 13, 1997.

The books in the chief refer to the schools and a university faculty in the parish. The cross refers to the church of Cristo Rei da Portela. The aquaduct is the local aquaduct over the Aviela river and an ancient and typical landmark. The base shows an olive tree for the olive groves in the municipality.
