Portuguese Escudo de azul, uma ponte de um arco, movente dos flancos, de prata e lavrada de negro e assente num contra-chefe ondado de prata e verde; em chefe uma estrela de cinco pontas de ouro. Coroa mural de três torres de prata. Listel branco, com a legenda a negro em maiúsculas : " QUELFES ".

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on September 16, 1994.

The arms show the local bridge, which played an important role as the bridge was heavily defended by the Portuguese against Napoleon in the early 19th century.
