Origin/meaning

The arms were officially adopted on November 20, 2020.

The oak alludes to the toponym Senoncourt of the village (Senonis-Curia in 1738); the Senons were a Celtic tribe that occupied eastern France before settling in the region of Sens (Yonne). In Celtic Senon means “old, wise”. The oak symbolizes wisdom, majesty.

The eagle is one of the attributes of Jupiter, master of the Roman gods, it evokes Jouy (and thus Maujouy) from the Latin Jovius: Jupiter. The eagle's talons and its sharp beak allude to the defensive elements of the fortified castle of Maujouy which once protected the region.

The fields of azure and gold emphasize that, under the old regime, the village belonged to the Duchy of Bar.

The garden lily flower is one of the attributes of Mary, the mother of Jesus. Red is the color of the Nativity of Mary to which the village church is dedicated. The fleur de lys also refers to the priory in the hamlet of Maujouy, the chapel of which was dedicated to Mary.

The red cross with a sword represents the French military hospital organized in Maujouy during the 1914-1918 war and then an American hospital installed to replace French troops in 1918.

The glass refers to a privilege of King Louis XIV, in 1667, made it possible to create a glass factory, in the style of Venice. The activity lasted for a few decades.

The twigs and the oak refer to the surrounding forests.
