(1855) De sable, au lion couronné d'or, l'écu surmonté d'un buste de St. Amand, Evêque, au naturel, tenant dans ses mains une Eglise d'or, accompagné à dextre d'une S et à senester d'un A de sable, pour support un dragon au naturel, passant derrière l'écu la tête countournée.
(1985) Gedeeld 1. in sabel een leeuw van zilver, geklauwd, getongd en gekroond van goud 2. doorsneden a. in zilver drie rozen van sabel, geknopt en gepunt van goud b. geschuinbalkt van zes stukken van goud en van lazuur met een zoom van keel, beladen met acht rozen van zilver. Het schild geplaatst voor een Sint-Amandus van natuurlijke kleur, houdende op de rechterhand een kerk en in de linkerhand een bisschopsstaf, beide van goud, en staande op een liggende draak van sinopel, geklauwd en getongd van keel.

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on February 15, 1855 and revised on May 7, 1985.

The oldest seal of the local council dates from the 18^th century and show the complete arms of the Dukes and Princes of Bournonville. In 1855 the council adopted the lion, but instead of the ducal crown and mantle, the bust of the local patron saint was added. The dragon is the symbol of St. Amands, who according to legend, killed a dragon.

The lion in the old arms is derived from the arms of the Dukes and Princes of Bournonville. In 1588 the estate and village of Sint Amands became a possession of Marie-Christine van Egmont, duchess of Bournonville. The estate remained in possession of the family until 1776.

In the new arms the lion is combined with the arms of Oppuurs in the upper left half and the lower left half symbolises the old municipality of Lippelo. The image of St. Amands was also changed into a more correct composition.
