SKAGAFJARÐASÝSLA

Coat of arms (crest) of Skagafjarðarsýsla
Official blazon
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms show in the upper part the islands of Drangey at the mouth of the fjord and which can be seen from most parts in the province. The sword and stick symbolise the old diocese of Holar, one of the two main bishoprics in medieval Iceland. The sword symbolises the many battles that took place in the valley.
