History: Formed 1 June 1944 as VP-27, VPB-27: 1 October 1944–15 May 1946, VP-27(2nd): 15 May 1946–15 November 1946, VP-MS-7: 15 November 1946-1 September 1948 and since that date VP-47.

Homeport: NAS Whidbey Island, Washington.
